Writing a Letter of Consent for a Passport

We have mentioned several times about having to write or have a notarized letter of consent when someone without sole custody wants to get a passport for a minor. However, many people don't know what all needs to be in a letter of consent.

A letter of consent cannot simply say, "These people can get a passport for my child. Thanks." It needs to contain several things. Take a look at our sample letter of consent and base yours off of that.

At a minimum, it needs to contain all of the child?s basic information, who is applying for the passport, where the child is traveling, who they will be traveling with, and all of the basic information for both you and the person applying.
