What to Do When Your Passport is Full
Many countries require a certain number of blank pages in a passport before they will issue a visa. If your passport only has 2-4 blank pages remaining and you need to obtain muliple visas, you may have a problem. There are a couple of ways you can remedy this depending on the expiration date of your passport and hwo frequently you travel. One, you can apply to add pages to your passport. All you need to do is mail the completed Form DS-4085 along with your current, valid U.S. passport and payment of $82 to the address on the form. You can choose to have 48 visa pages added to your passport instead of the standard 24 pages. Adding pages to your passport will not change its validity. Therefore, the second option is a better one if your passport only has a year or two before it expires and you do not think you will need all the added pages for visas and entry stamps. Two, you can apply for a renewal by mail. You will be issued a new passport with a validity of 10 years. If you plan to travel extensively over the next 10 years, you can check the box on the application form to receive the 52-page passport book rather than the one with only 28 pages. In addition to the completed Form DS-82, you need to send your current passport, a recent passport photo and payment in the amount of $110 for the renewal application fee. If your name has been legally changed, you also need to include evidence of this. Note, you cannot apply for added pages or a renewal by mail if your passport is significantly damaged. In this case, you need to appear at an application acceptance facility in order to apply for a new passport. Applications for both added pages and renewals are processed in 4-6 weeks for routine service. You can request expedited service by mail to get the process completed in 2-3 weeks. There is an additional fee of $60 to expedite either form. To have either application processed more quickly, you need to schedule an appointment at the nearest regional agency and either submit the application yourself or authorize a third party to do it for you. Al Qaeda Threat Leads to Closing of U.S. Embassies and Consulates
The U.S. Department of State issued a Worldwide Travel Alert due to a hightened threat of terrorist attacks.
Recommended safety precautions for American citizens.
1. Defer travel to Middle East and North Africa, if possible.
The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to the continued potential for terrorist attacks, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, and possibly occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula. Current information suggests that al-Qa?ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August.
2. Enroll in the Department of State's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don't have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. 3. Stay alert. U.S. citizens should take every precaution to be aware of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate safety measures to protect themselves when traveling. 4. Keep informed. Zone Extended for Border Crossing Card Holders in New Mexico
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano announced today the publication of a notice of proposed rulemaking which would extend the border zone up to 55 miles, from the current 25 mile restriction, for Border Crossing Card (BCC) holders in the state of New Mexico. This proposed change would allow BCC holders to travel to the towns of Deming, Lordsburg and Las Cruces, N.M., stimulating commerce, trade and tourism activity in the area.

What are the steps for renewing a child's passport?
A passport issued to a minor age 16 or younger cannot be renewed by mail using form DS-82. Rather, it is necessary for the child to appear with both parents at an application acceptance facility in order to apply for a new passport. When the minor appears with only one parent, the applying parent must submit either evidence of sole legal custody or notarized consent from the non-applying parent. Required documents include the completed application Form DS-11, evidence of U.S. citizenship, proof of child/parent relationship, ID of parent(s), photocopy of identification document(s) and passport photo. The application can be submitted at an application acceptance facility for routine or expedited processing service. What to Do When Your Passport is Full
Many countries require a certain number of blank pages in a passport before they will issue a visa. If your passport only has 2-4 blank pages remaining and you need to obtain muliple visas, you may have a problem. There are a couple of ways you can remedy this depending on the expiration date of your passport and hwo frequently you travel. One, you can apply to add pages to your passport. All you need to do is mail the completed Form DS-4085 along with your current, valid U.S. passport and payment of $82 to the address on the form. You can choose to have 48 visa pages added to your passport instead of the standard 24 pages. Adding pages to your passport will not change its validity. Therefore, the second option is a better one if your passport only has a year or two before it expires and you do not think you will need all the added pages for visas and entry stamps. Two, you can apply for a renewal by mail. You will be issued a new passport with a validity of 10 years. If you plan to travel extensively over the next 10 years, you can check the box on the application form to receive the 52-page passport book rather than the one with only 28 pages. In addition to the completed Form DS-82, you need to send your current passport, a recent passport photo and payment in the amount of $110 for the renewal application fee. If your name has been legally changed, you also need to include evidence of this. Note, you cannot apply for added pages or a renewal by mail if your passport is significantly damaged. In this case, you need to appear at an application acceptance facility in order to apply for a new passport. Applications for both added pages and renewals are processed in 4-6 weeks for routine service. You can request expedited service by mail to get the process completed in 2-3 weeks. There is an additional fee of $60 to expedite either form. To have either application processed more quickly, you need to schedule an appointment at the nearest regional agency and either submit the application yourself or authorize a third party to do it for you. This is our final day of the cruise and we have a very exciting day panned. We took the optional tour today to attend a cooking lesson with a Michelin 3 star chef of the Bordeaux Grand Hotel. Only 12 participants. We took the city tram to the hotel in the city center with Katell the cruise director. The Grand hotel is the finest in the city. We were taken to the kitchen of the Michelin restaurant.

Well it?s Groundhog Day, again. And for Americans this year, that must mean there?s another winter storm throwing a monkey wrench in their travel plans from Dallas to Dover. At this rate, we might feel lucky if there are only six more weeks of winter weather to endure.

Tornadoes, freezing rain, snowfall measured in feet, not inches?these are all problems gumming up the works for weather-weary travelers at a time when we just want to see some sun, swoosh down the slopes or head out of town for the Super Bowl.

Where to Apply for a Passport in Person
American citizens can apply for a passport in person in the United States at an application acceptance facility or a regional passport agency. There are thousands of application acceptance facilities in the United States. The majority are located in post offices but they can also be found in a few public libraries and local government offices. Passport applications submitted at these locations have an estimated processing time of 4-6 weeks for standard service and 2-3 weeks for expedited service. There are 25 regional passport agencies located in major U.S. cities. They process applications for applicants who need to get a passport within 14 days either to travel abroad or to submit for the issuance of a foreign entry visa. All agencies issue passport books but not all of them issue passport cards. Passports applications are processed at the agencies within 5 business days. It can be as fast as the same day.
