A Child's Passport With a Single Parent

Sometimes there are reader questions with really simple answers, but if no one asked them, no one would know!

Jennifer from Cocoa Beach, FL asked us about getting a passport for her child. Jennifer is a single mom and the only parent listed on her birth certificate. When applying for her child's passport she noticed that it said both parents must be present.

She asked us, "how do I get a passport for my child with only one parent?"

Here is the really simple answer: if you are the only parent on the birth certificate, you are the only parent that needs to be there! You just leave the father section blank, as you did on the birth certificate.
