American citizens can request expedited service when renewing a U.S. passport by mail. The estimated processing time for this service is 2 to 3 weeks. While expedited processing my mail might be completed in less time, it can also take more time to process the application. Applicants who need to renew a passport in 2 weeks or less or those who need to get both a passport and a travel visa within 4 weeks should expedite renewal applications at a regional passport agency. Currently, there are 25 regional agencies in the United States. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-487-2778. Evidence of imminent travel is required at many but not all agencies. Depending on your date of departure, the passport application could be processed in a few days to as fast as the same day. If you are unable to visit a regional agency, you can get your passport renewed through an expediting service provider. Expediters are registered with the Department of State Passport Services.
