There are 25 regional passport agencies located in major U.S. cities. They process applications for applicants who need to get a passport within 14 days either to travel abroad or to submit for the issuance of a foreign entry visa. All agencies issue passport books but not all of them issue passport cards. Passports applications are processed at the agencies within 5 business days. It can be as fast as the same day. American citizens who are traveling abroad can apply for a passport in person at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate general.
