Do Infants Need a SSN to Apply for a Passport

When a baby is born, they are not automatically issued a social security number. In fact, the parents have to apply for a social security number. This process can take up to 12 weeks since the birth certificate must be verified.

Given this, Beth asked us, "Do I need a SSN for my infant to get a passport?"

The answer is a simple No! If your child doesn?t have a SSN yet, you can simply enter all zeroes in the section that asks for the SSN.
