Question #19 on a Passport Application

When you apply for a passport, question #19 asks you for your travel plans. We got a reader question from Jay, who asked do I need to fill this in?

We have gotten this question a few times. It does seem strange that a document that allows you to travel internationally for 10 years would ask you for any international travel plans when you sign up for it. You do NOT need to have specific travel plans in order to apply for a passport. You can just write "n/a" in the blank for question #19.
