Renewing a Lost Passport

If you know you have a passport, but you cannot get your hands on it, you cannot renew it. When you apply for a renewal, you have to send your physical passport in. If you have lost your passport you will need to apply for a new one.

Along with applying for a new passport using form DS-11, you should also use form DS-64 to report your lost passport. This will effectively cancel your old passport and greatly reduce your chances for passport fraud, as well as speed up your process in getting a new one.
