Learn A Few Foreign Words

While it is true that English can get you by in most countries, don?t take that for granted when you are traveling. You should at least pick up "hello," "goodbye," "please," and "thank you" in the country's native language before heading there.

Probably the most important phrase you can learn in a native language is, "do you speak English?"

You should carry a phrase book with you in case the person you are speaking to doesn't speak English. Even if you are embarrassed to give the second language a shot, remember that people will appreciate your efforts to speak their language!
